Ingredients You'll Need
Please scroll down to the recipe card below for the full ingredients list with measurements, complete recipe method, recipe notes, and nutritional information.

- Oreo cookies - Choose your favorite flavor.
- Chocolate - It is important to choose a top-quality one you can afford, just like when making Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips and Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe without Brown Sugar. I use Lindt 70% dark chocolate, but Valrhona chocolates are also quite popular. You can also use milk chocolate or white chocolate.
- Banana - Use ripe but firm bananas. They should be easy to slice but not too soft, so they hold their shape when dipped in chocolate.
- Sprinkles - Use your favorite colorful sprinkles to decorate your no-bake cookies. You can also use crushed nuts, desiccated coconut, melted chocolate drizzle, or crushed biscuits as toppings.
How to Make Oreos Covered in Chocolate
Line a baking tray with parchment paper. This will stop the cookies from sticking once dipped.
Now it is time to melt the chocolate. You can do it in two easy ways:
Microwave Method
Break or chop your chocolate into small, uniform pieces and place them in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave the chocolate on a medium to low heat setting (50% power) in short intervals, typically 20-30 seconds at a time.
After each microwave interval, take the bowl out and stir the chocolate until it is smooth and completely melted. This helps distribute the heat evenly and prevents overheating. Even if the chocolate pieces don't look fully melted, keep stirring.
Continue microwaving and stirring in short intervals until the chocolate is fully melted.

Double Boiler Method
You can also use a double boiler (a.k.a bain-marie or water bath) to melt the chocolate chips or pieces. Fill a saucepan with about an inch (3 cm) of water and place it on the stove. Heat the water over low to medium heat until it simmers gently.
Find a heatproof glass or stainless steel bowl that fits snugly on top of the saucepan without touching the simmering water. Place your chocolate pieces in the heatproof bowl and set it with the chocolate on top of the simmering water.

The steam from the simmering water will gently heat the bowl, melting the chocolate slowly and evenly. Stir the chocolate occasionally as it melts.

Once the chocolate is smooth and fully melted, carefully remove the bowl from the double boiler.
Dip the Oreos in Chocolate
Take an Oreo cookie, place a banana slice on top, and dip it into the melted chocolate, ensuring it's fully coated. You can use a fork or a dipping tool to help with this.
After dipping, let the excess chocolate drip back into the small bowl by gently lifting and tapping the fork's edge against the bowl.

Place the dipped cookies on the parchment paper-lined baking sheet or tray. Continue dipping until all your Oreos are covered.

Before the chocolate sets, sprinkle the top of the chocolate-covered Oreo with your choice of holiday sprinkles to add a colorful and crunchy element.

Let them cool and allow the chocolate to harden.
Recipe Tips From the Chef
- Opt for good quality chocolate for a smoother and tastier coating. You can choose between dark, milk, or white chocolate, depending on your preference.
- Use firm bananas so they hold their shape better. Don’t slice them too thick, or they may slide off.
- When dipping Oreos into the melted chocolate, use a fork or a dipping tool to ensure even coverage and smooth finish.
- Allow the chocolate coating to cool and harden on parchment paper in the refrigerator for about 15-20 minutes.
- Add toppings immediately before the coating sets.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Even though this is an easy recipe, a few things can affect the result.
- Using overripe bananas (they become too soft).
- Overheating chocolate (it becomes grainy).
- Skipping parchment paper (they may stick).
- Dipping while chocolate is too thick (uneven coating).
- Waiting too long before adding toppings.
Recipe Variations
The best part about chocolate sandwich cookies is that you can make them your own. Here are some ideas to get you started:
- After dipping your Oreos in chocolate, drizzle them with caramel sauce for a sweet and gooey finish.
- Spread a thin layer of creamy peanut butter on top of the Oreos before dipping them in chocolate.
- After dipping the Oreos in chocolate, sprinkle finely chopped dried fruit like apricots, cherries, or cranberries on top.
- Roll your chocolate-dipped Oreos in crushed nuts like almonds, peanuts, or hazelnuts for an added crunch and nutty flavor.
- After dipping your Oreos in chocolate, drizzle them with caramel sauce for a sweet and gooey finish.
Storage Instructions
Store in an airtight container and keep at room temperature for up to 2–3 days. You can refrigerate them for up to 2 weeks and bring them to room temperature before serving. After this time, they may start to lose their crispness.
Recipe FAQs
You can make Oreos covered in chocolate up to 2–3 days in advance. Store them in an airtight container at room temperature, or refrigerate them if you want them to last a little longer. They’re best enjoyed within a few days for the freshest texture.
Dark, milk, or white chocolate all work well. Use good-quality chocolate for the best texture and flavour.
If necessary, add a few drops of coconut oil or vegetable oil to loosen the melted chocolate.
