1 measuring spoons
1 Measuring cups
- 1 lbs halloumi cheese (450 grams)
- ¼ cup plain white flour / all-purpose flour
- 2 small eggs
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon paprika
- ¼ cup oil for frying
Start by cutting the halloumi cheese into thick strips, resembling fries.
Prepare your workstation: In a shallow bowl, mix together the plain white flour, freshly ground black pepper, and paprika. In another shallow bowl, beat the eggs until well combined. Place the panko breadcrumbs in a third shallow bowl.
Take each halloumi strip and coat it first in the flour mixture, then dip it into the beaten eggs, and finally coat it in the panko breadcrumbs, ensuring it's fully coated. Place them on a plate.
Heat the oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the coated halloumi strips into the pan in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
Fry the halloumi fries for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
Once cooked, remove the halloumi fries from the pan and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.
- Make sure to coat each halloumi strip evenly with the flour, egg, and breadcrumbs for a crispy outer layer.
- While breading the halloumi strips, you might need to take breaks to wash your hands once or twice.
- Preheat the oil to the correct temperature before frying the halloumi fries.
- Avoid overcrowding the frying pan by frying the halloumi fries in batches.
- This recipe works perfectly with other grilling cheeses such as paneer or queso panela.
